Every wedding story begins with the story of a couple's first date. Many times these stories are filled with awkward moments, embarrassing details, and lots of laughs. Mark and I just celebrated our First Dateiversary about a week ago--hard to believe it's been 7 years already! Our first date had its ups & downs, between realizing Mark REALLY meant it when he said he didn't dance, and then trying to carry on a conversation while rap music was blaring at my sorority function, it's amazing we made it past the first few hours, let alone 7 years! Our wonderful friends, The Slonekers, just had their 8 year First Dateiversary and wrote about it on their blog. Chelsea also posted this clip, which I had never seen, and thought it would be fun for Funny Friday on the blog. Post a comment with a funny story from YOUR first date and be eligible to win a gift card for a fun date night out on us!! Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend!
Our weekend is full of celebrations (LOVE!) between our first baby shower, two parties for my Poppie's 90th birthday, and a Super Bowl shindig! Looking forward to an action packed few days!

My first real date was at 16. It was a guy from my church that I've had a crush on since 8th grade. When he came to pick me up, he locked his keys in the car and my dad had to use a coat hanger to open the doors. We then went ice skating, where I proceeded to fall a few times, and lunch at Cheddar's (can we say awkward silences?). We had some extra time, so we walked around a local park and talked before church. It was fun, awkward, and memorable. Nothing ever became of the relationship, but we are still friends to this day. Oh, first dates!
Haha! So glad you liked the video, Jenessa! What I didn't mention on my post was that while Del and I were at the mall getting ready to eat our first-date-lunch (romantic, huh?) he sat down and said "can I breast the food?!" ha! Instead of "bless the food." still makes me giggle to this day! I hope you have a great weekend and can't wait to see you in a few weeks!
My first date with John was acutally pretty uneventful. We lost between the Walton Arts Center Parking lot and Does. I downed an entire 2 pound steak. (I was like 100lbs) Then when John dropped me off at my dorm after our goodbye kiss I got out of his big truck and went to walk around the front of it. John obviously wasn't paying attention and inches forward then notices me and slams on the breaks barely missing me. So our ongoing joke is John almost running me over on our first date...
Yancy invited me on our first date to help him shop for clothes. He had just graduated and taken a job offer and needed to spruce up his wardrobe. Afterward, we planned on going to a movie. I gladly offered to help him spend his money. He picked me up at 10am and we went to OK City for a long day of shopping. We continued to shop throughout the day without eating. I was starving, but figured he had a big breakfast and didn't each lunch. I wasn't about to admit I needed to eat on our first date. The day progressed: no eating. We then went to the 7pm movie: no eating. On the drive back to Stillwater I was so ravenous and could not understand how this guy could just go an entire day without eating. I was feeling light headed and everything. He dropped me off at the Zeta house and I immediately went to the kitchen and stuffed my face. Apparently he did the same thing when he returned home. To this day we still laugh about how miserably hungry we were all that day, but he was "too embarrassed to ask if I wanted dinner in case I didn't want to have to spend anymore time with him." I told him that, at that point in the night, I would have eaten dinner with my worst enemy. Over six years later, and now that we're married, I now have no problem telling him to stop- wherever we are- and buy me some food.
My first date with Patrick is a little strange. He met me in the Ft. Smith Chili's (we weren't "officially" dating, so this is a long story that I'll tell you at lunch sometime), and I ate like a total fatty in front of him. It was the first time it had ever been just the two of us. He was supposed to just be passing through to head to his parents' house in NLR, but I convinced him to go with me to the skanky Village Pub to watch Sarah Edwards' dad's band play :) When he finally left to go to NLR at like, 1:00am, I knew he was a good one. He went with me to arguably one of the grossest, most smoke-infested joints in Ft. Smith and didn't complain at all.
Until the next day when he was exhausted :)
Have fun in CA! Tell it I miss it!
I took a girl named Pam out to a school dance. I tried to impress her with my quick wit and humor. And it worked...I was on fire. She laughed and laughed. Then she disappeared into the ladies room at the dance for a long time. Her friend came and told me she was throwing up. I had to take her home. Apparently she laughed so much - she made her self sick! So I thought I would give her a second chance. We go out to eat and have a nice time, then we are sitting in her parents driveway and I am making her laugh - then suddenly she kicks open the door and pukes again! WOW. A girl who pukes from laughing. Needless to say - we were not compatible.
I've never been very good at labeling relationships. I've never really experienced the "dating" stage I guess...it had gone from close friends to more than that without much definition of the relationship. Nothing was different when I met Abby. We met at a gathering of friends, and she caught my eye. A few weeks later, while hanging out with some of the same people, I asked her for her number and if we could go get coffee or something. She said yes, and I guess Starbucks was our first "date". The next week, we moved up to a smoothie at IntaJuice, still just getting to know each other. Finally, in our third week of "hanging out" we graduated to solid food and had some munchies at Common Grounds. I really liked her and said, "I don't really know what to call this (our relationship), but I like it and I'd like for it to continue and become something more." The next week, I went to her house to meet the parents (gasp!) and had a great time. They had some after-dinner coffee and someone said, "Do you have any creamer?" to her mom, and they didn't...fortunately, I had a whole box of Mini-Moos in my car! Ever since, the running joke has been that if they're missing or needing something, check my car before going to the store :p From then on, she was my girlfriend I guess :) A little over a year later, here we are preparing for a spring wedding!
I know it's not really an embarrassing story, but it's sort of funny and cute in its own way.
My husband and I had a very normal/awkward first date, dinner and a movie. He picked me up from my house and gave me a hug that I wasn't expecting and ended up more of just me running into him, very embarrassing. He then took me out to eat at Powerhouse, a place I had never been because I do not like seafood. During dinner we didn’t really talk that much because I am shy and so is he, so we literally finished dinner in 30 minutes. That threw off our plans to see the movie The Prestige, because when we got to the theatre we realized it didn’t start for almost an hour and a half. So, we decided to see the movie that started the soonest, Texas Chainsaw Massacre! Talk about romantic :) That movie still didn’t start for 45 minutes, so we got some popcorn and sat down. We were the only people in the theatre so we sat there talking again with awkward silences. But I guess it worked because we have been happily married for almost two years!
